Random Acts Of Kindness

Today, more than ever, we need to make a point of practicing Random Acts Of Kindness.

RAOK are a habit for many of us. We act with respect and kindness toward others because it is the right thing to do. We do it genuinely and in a heartfelt manner. With no expectation of reward or reciprocity.

RAOKs can be incredibly impactful to the recipient. A gift. Ever so small, yet ever so meaningful.

One brief moment, one short expenditure of time or energy on our part can mean 100 times more to the person we extend the kindness to.

A kind word or gesture might require a second of our time. But, this act will likely touch the heart of another person in a very real way and literally make their day better.

There is no coincidence that the active practice of RAOK coincide with those who are most happy or successful in life. It is not why we do it. But doing the right thing and acting respectfully toward others is also an investment in ourselves. It’s the PLUS ONE to doing the right thing.

How we think about and act toward others over time becomes a big part of who we are. Each act of kindness toward others becomes part of our own fabric. Doing this regularly is one way that we define ourselves in a positive manner. We become better people when we treat other people better.

One way to get your momentum going in the right direction after a setback is to do something nice for someone else. You get to brighten someone’s day a bit and feel a little better about yourself and your life.

If you have good situational awareness there will be countless opportunities to spontaneously do good deeds during your routine, day-to-day activities.

Stay aware of others and what is going on around you. You will have many chances to hold a door for someone or let them go ahead of you in line, chances to give up a seat, or move so that someone can see better. We can never be too courteous or thoughtful toward others.

You can do a favor for a family member or friend. You can help do a chore or make something easier for them. With a little thought, there is always something you can do for those in your life.

Everyone likes to be complimented. Try to come up with as many ways as you can to say a kind word, congratulate, or give someone credit. This is something that can be developed if you make a point of it and practice.

The world we live in today certainly can use the good vibes. So, set a goal of saying or doing two or three nice things for others each and every day. Be genuine and have fun. Enjoy the good vibes that come back to you, and feel better about yourself!
