Setting Your Expectations

It may not be something you are thinking about at this point. But, do not underestimate the importance of setting expectations for yourself and your life.

When we have no expectations we tend to live life moment to moment, day to day.  We have no real drive or urgency. We just are going along for the ride.

When we have expectations we have a personal motivation to meet those expectations.  We live our lives more purposefully. We get in the driver’s seat.

How far you go and what you do in life will be dictated by the expectation you have for yourself, and for your life. The sooner you start to set them the better.

What your parents, teachers or friends say or think does account for something. It is information. Information from people who know you and have different perspectives and life experiences. The more informed our decisions are the better they tend to be.

However, as you begin your life’s journey your goals and expectations have to be yours, and yours alone. If you try to live your life as you think others may want you will set yourself up for failure because your heart will not be in it.

Now is the time to start thinking about your expectations and what success in life will look like for you.  Don’t be afraid to set the bar high.

When we know what we want and where we want to go (our goals) we have direction in our lives.

When we know what we need to do in order to achieve our goals (our objectives and action steps) we have a plan.

From there we roll up our sleeves and go to work.
